Original Story:

Michael Jordan’s third retirement in 2003 closed the book on his NBA career for good. More than two decades later, Jordan Brand is revisiting that farewell through the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter"

The pair is tied to Jordan’s open letter to basketball, which appeared in Sunday newspapers four days after his final NBA game. Its worn-in palette reflects the look of an aged basketball, led by brown nubuck across the ankle and heel. White leather builds the base, while dark brown suede covers the overlays, collar, and Swooshes. A muted red finish appears on the outsole and insoles.

Several details pull directly from Jordan’s message. “With Love and Respect,” the letter’s closing words, is printed along the medial side of the left shoe. The inner tongue carries a longer passage about basketball becoming more than a ball or court. A basketball-shaped hangtag and matching printed box complete the theme.

Jordan had announced his final retirement earlier during the 2002-03 season. During his last visit to Philadelphia, the 76ers marked the occasion by presenting him with a custom golf cart before the game. The “Love Letter” also arrives during a sentimental stretch for the Air Jordan 1. Another story-driven Air Jordan 1 Low release is expected in September, using rose-inspired detailing and a subtle Knicks reference connected to Jordan’s final appearance at Madison Square Garden as a Chicago Bull.
